Oregon's Budget and Education

Posted on March 5, 2009

Serving as your Representative is both humbling and rewarding. I have worked my hardest to improve our district and our state. In this and subsequent letters I will share with you our achievements, goals, and announcements.

Standing Up For Our Schools

While I commend the work of my fellow representatives in preparing the budget, I had to vote against it this morning. This budget deal just did not go far enough for our district. We should ensure our schools retain a full academic year.

Oregon City schools, for example, will lose three days. If our students do not have an excellent education, they will not succeed in the global economy. The rainy day fund is for budget emergencies - our children not receiving a full school year is such an emergency. I voted against the cuts to our schools simply because I believe we could have used reserve funds to keep all our schools open for the rest of the year.

Education Town Halls in Damascus and Estacada

Calling and emailing my office are only two of the ways you can be in touch with me. Another is attending an upcoming town hall. I look forward to seeing you at one or both of them:
